Block Island Weddings
The most popular time to tie the knot on Block Island is the mild-weathered months of September and October. Block Island weddings often hold an element of the unexpected for island residents: In 1997, a whirlwind rumor had the media flocking here in hopes of “capturing” Barbra Streisand and James Brolin getting hitched (it never happened – on this island). And, in 1994, Katherine Anne (“Kiki”) Gershman became the bride of Edward M. Kennedy Jr. in a celebrity studded event that had the whole world watching.
Block Island offers a full range of wedding services. There are four churches and seven religious denominations. The island’s top elected officials, the first and second wardens, can conduct civil ceremonies.
